How To Make Your Elopement Special |Unique Ideas For Your Elopement

Elope somewhere you have never been

Eloping no longer means running off to Vegas to get married my Elvis. You can make your elopement unique by choosing a location that you may have never been to. With no guests or a small guest list it really opens up your options. I often suggest choosing a mid-week date because there is more availability and locations are less busy. Working with an elopement planner can make the process stress-free and they can send you local recommendations if you are not familiar with the area you are eloping in. There are elopement options everywhere across the country – on the beach, in the mountains, next to a lake, in the middle of the city, the options are endless!

Exchange Vows

Exchanging vows during your elopement ceremony can end up being such a memorable heartfelt moment. This is a way to personalize your wedding ceremony and really make it about YOU. We recommend purchasing vow books to take with you to the ceremony, you can keep them after the wedding day as a keepsake to look back on forever! If you are struggling with how to write your vows there are several blogs online to help you out or you can even hire a professional to work with you on how to write and recite your wedding vows.

Have a champagne toast after the ceremony

What better way to celebrate your elopement than with a bottle of champs! Grab a bottle of bubbly and a few glasses to your elopement ceremony and keep it cold in a mini cooler to pop after your elopement. It makes for great photos and you can save the glasses to use on your 1st anniversary. If you are not into champagne you can always switch it up for beer or any of your other favorite spirits. Cheers!

Do a picnic together after the ceremony

If you are doing an elopement and you are looking for a way to celebrate and are not into a large reception or formal dinner an elopement picnic is a great option. You can set up an elopement picnic almost anywhere, all you need is a few blankets or rugs, pillows, a picnic basket loaded with your favorites snacks and food, and a bottle of wine or champagne to toast with.

Include your pets

Bring your furry best friend to your elopement ceremony with you! You can even walk down the aisle with them- pets make for great ring bearers and flower girls. When you consider bringing your pet with you to your elopement make sure the venue or location you are eloping at allows fur babies!

Do a cake cutting ceremony

Just because you are eloping doesn’t mean you cannot incorporate some of the aspects of a larger wedding. Ordering a small, one tier cake and cutting it together after the elopement ceremony is a fun way to take part in this popular wedding tradition. Make sure to pack a cake stand, cake and knife server, fork, and napkins just in case the cake cutting gets a little dirty! There are several companies that offer all-inclusive packages that include a mini-reception where you can do a cake cutting and champagne toast.

Include your children

More and more couples either are waiting until after having children to get married or they are remarrying into a blended family. There are so many ways to incorporate your children into your elopement ceremony. You can make your children the flower girl or ring bearer, and you can even have your children walk you down the aisle. A lot of times the couple will read something special to their kids during the ceremony or present them with a sweet gift. If you do any sort of unity element you can have them assist with that.

Get ready together the morning of the wedding

If you are planning an elopement you can throw the rule book out the window. Traditionally the bride and groom would not see each other until the wedding ceremony. One of the sweetest things I have seen is when the couple gets ready together. It is such an intimate moment to share together and it makes your time together on the wedding day even longer. You can help tying their tie or help the bride get into her dress.

Have a first dance after your ceremony

Just because you elope doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a first dance together after the ceremony. Pack a bluetooth speaker and download your favorite song, you can even do parent dances if you have your family with you!

Get a custom sign to hold for photos to announce your elopement later

Having a “we eloped” sign makes for great photos and can be the perfect way to announce your elopement to friends and loved ones that could not make it to the elopement ceremony.
